What this cream does
A 60 ml light gel-cream built on Houttuynia cordata extract with Centella, licorice root, sage and a trace of Guaiazulene, formulated to be layered rather than applied thickly.
Guaiazulene, the last entry
Guaiazulene is an azulene — a hydrocarbon isolated from guaiac wood and found in chamomile. It is an intense blue, which is why azulene formulas look the way they do, and it has a long history in products made for skin that is reacting.
At position twenty-four of twenty-four it is a trace, and we are not going to claim a trace is doing heavy work. But it is a deliberate inclusion — nobody adds guaiazulene by accident, and it is the reason this cream has the tint it has.
Heartleaf, and what is around it
Houttuynia Cordata Extract — heartleaf — is ninth, ahead of the emulsifier. That is the ingredient on the front of the tube, placed high enough to be a real fraction rather than a name.
Centella Asiatica Extract follows at eleven, then Sage and Licorice Root, and Allantoin at twenty. Five separate ingredients chosen for the same reason, which is what a formula built around calming looks like when it is not just one hero and filler.
Two entries are less familiar. Sorghum Bicolor Leaf/Stem Extract is a film-former from sorghum, used where a formula wants a smoothing feel without silicone. Aspergillus Ferment is a fungal ferment — the same family of process used to make sake and soy sauce.

- Sorghum Bicolor Leaf/Stem Extract
- Extract of sorghum leaf and stem. Forms a light film — used where a formula wants smoothness without silicone.
- Aspergillus Ferment
- Ferment of an Aspergillus culture.
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
- Medium-chain triglyceride from coconut. Used to soften by filling the gaps between surface cells.
- Isohexadecane
- Branched hydrocarbon. A dry-feeling emollient — spreads and disappears rather than sitting.
- Sorbitol
- Sugar alcohol. Used to pull in water and hold it.
How the formula works together
The first six entries are water and five humectants — propanediol, glycerin, hyaluronate, butylene glycol and sorbitol. The oil phase does not start until position seven, and it is only two ingredients: Isohexadecane and Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, both light and dry-feeling.
That is the whole story of the texture. There is no butter, no heavy wax, no thick occlusive. Glyceryl Stearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate and an acrylates crosspolymer hold it together; Xanthan Gum sets the body.
So this is a gel-cream, not a cream in the winter sense — which is why the instructions say to layer it two or three times. That is not upselling; a formula this light genuinely does more in thin repeated coats than in one thick one.
No fragrance and no essential oil on the list.
Who it is for
Labelled for all skin types. In practice it suits skin that is irritated, oily, or both — the sort that wants calming without weight. If you are genuinely dry, layer it or use it under something richer rather than expecting it to be the last step.
How to use it
- Apply a thin layer to clean, damp skin.
- Let it settle, then apply a second and third thin layer where you want more.
- Thin layers repeated beat one thick layer with a formula this light.
