COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask 60ml
Description
A step short enough that you will not skip it.
What this mask does
A 60 ml mask, formulated to hold water in the surface, calm the look of redness and soften the surface.
Niacinamide, near the top of the list
Niacinamide sits at number 6 of 18 — an ingredient list runs in order of quantity, so that is among the largest part of what is in the bottle.
You can check it against the full list further down.
Key ingredients
| Ingredient | What it is, and what it is used for |
|---|---|
| Niacinamide | Nicotinamide (vitamin B3). Studied for signalling to skin cells rather than sitting on top; studied for evening out tone; studied for breakout-prone skin. |
| Allantoin | Heterocyclic diureide. Used to calm irritation. |
| Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil | Oil from Helianthus annuus seed. Listed as skin-conditioning agent (miscellaneous), skin-conditioning agent (occlusive). |
| Butylene Glycol | Diol. Used to pull in water and hold it; dissolves the rest so the formula stays one liquid. |
| Glycerin | Polyol. A material skin already contains, so it reads as its own; used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Betaine | Amino acid derivative from sugar beet. Used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract | Extract of Oryza sativa (rice). Listed as hair-conditioning agent, skin-conditioning agent. |
| Cetearyl Olivate | Olive-derived ester of cetearyl alcohol. Keeps oil and water from separating. |
| Sorbitan Olivate | Olive-derived sorbitan ester. Keeps oil and water from separating. |
| Cetearyl Alcohol | Fatty alcohol blend (C16-C18). Used to soften by filling the gaps between surface cells; sets how thick it is; keeps oil and water from separating. |
| Dimethicone | Polydimethylsiloxane. Listed as antifoaming agent, skin-protecting agent, skin-conditioning agent (occlusive), solvent. |
| Carbomer | Cross-linked polyacrylic acid. Sets how thick it is; stops the mix separating over time. |
How the formula works together
Three groups of ingredients are doing the work here. Humectants — Butylene Glycol, Glycerin and Betaine — draw water into the surface. Allantoin works on the look of redness. Cetearyl Alcohol sits on top and slow how fast that water leaves.
Humectants and emollients and lipids are the pairing that matters here: water pulled in by one, held there by the other. That is the difference between skin that feels comfortable an hour after application and skin that feels comfortable at bedtime.
Who it is for
Labelled for all skin type.
Worth checking before you buy: contains silicones.
How to use it
- At the last step of skin care, apply proper amount and spread.
- Tap for absorption and go to bed.
- Wash off with lukewarm water next morning.
