IOPE Retinol Super Bounce Serum 50ml
For when you have decided to keep going.
Four retinoid-family materials on one list, in the 50 ml bottle.
Bouncy gel, not a cream.
What this serum does
A 50 ml serum carrying Retinol alongside Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate and a retinol-support ester, with Madecassoside, three peptides and Shea Butter, formulated as a night step for skin working on the look of firmness and fine lines.
Why the list reads as four things, not one
Retinol sits near the end of the list, which is normal — it works at low percentages. Above it is Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, a retinoid ester that does not need the same conversion step, and Kojyl Methylenedioxycinnamate, included in this family of formulas to support retinol activity. Beta-Carotene, a carotenoid, is on the list too. That is the "quadruple" the brand refers to.
Key ingredients
Ingredient · What it is, and what it is used for
- Retinol
- Vitamin A. The most studied ingredient for the look of lines and texture, and the one that needs an adjustment period.
- Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate
- Retinoic acid ester (granactive retinoid).
- Kojyl Methylenedioxycinnamate
- Kojic acid derivative.
- Beta-Carotene
- Carotenoid. Gives it its colour.
- Madecassoside
- Triterpene glycoside from Centella asiatica. Used to calm irritation.
- Acetyl Tetrapeptide-11
- Synthetic tetrapeptide.
- Decapeptide-4
- Synthetic decapeptide.
- Rice sh-Oligopeptide-1
- Rice-derived oligopeptide.
- Squalane
- Saturated hydrocarbon, hydrogenated squalene. A material skin already contains, so it reads as its own; used to soften by filling the gaps between surface cells.
- Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter
- Shea butter. Sits on top and slows how fast water leaves, and softens by filling the gaps between surface cells.
- Chamaecyparis Obtusa Leaf Extract
- Extract of hinoki cypress leaf.
- Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate
- Lysate of Lactobacillus culture.
How the formula works together
Retinoids are the reason to buy this; everything else is there to make them tolerable. Shea Butter, Squalane, sunflower and soybean oils and the fatty alcohols build a cushioning base, and Madecassoside with hinoki cypress extract works on the look of irritation — the specific problem a retinol step tends to create.
Three peptides and Adenosine sit alongside them, and Tocopherol with BHT keep the oil phase from oxidising, which matters more than usual in a formula carrying vitamin A. It is a cautious build: active enough to be worth doing, buffered enough to be kept up.
Who it is for
Labelled for all skin types, as a night serum. Contains retinoids; introduce slowly and use sunscreen during the day.
How to use it
- At night, after toner, take a small amount and spread over the face.
- Start two or three nights a week and build up as skin allows.
- Follow with a moisturiser, and wear sunscreen the next morning.
