MEDIHEAL Derma Modeling Pack Vitamin Brightening
Description
What this bottle does
A 50ml bottle, formulated to hold water in the surface, calm the look of redness and even out the look of tone.
Niacinamide, near the top of the list
Niacinamide sits at number 4 of 22 — an ingredient list runs in order of quantity, so that is among the largest part of what is in the bottle.
You can check it against the full list further down.
Key ingredients
| Ingredient | What it is, and what it is used for |
|---|---|
| Niacinamide | Nicotinamide (vitamin B3). Studied for signalling to skin cells rather than sitting on top; studied for evening out tone; studied for breakout-prone skin. |
| Sodium Hyaluronate | Sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. A material skin already contains, so it reads as its own; used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Panthenol | Provitamin B5. Used to calm irritation; used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Dipropylene Glycol | Diol. Dissolves the rest so the formula stays one liquid. |
| Glycerin | Polyol. A material skin already contains, so it reads as its own; used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Propanediol | Plant-derived diol. Dissolves the rest so the formula stays one liquid; used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Butylene Glycol | Diol. Used to pull in water and hold it; dissolves the rest so the formula stays one liquid. |
| Carbomer | Cross-linked polyacrylic acid. Sets how thick it is; stops the mix separating over time. |
| Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer | Acrylate copolymer. Listed as skin-conditioning agent (humectant), viscosity increasing agent (aqueous). |
| Water | Solvent. Dissolves the rest so the formula stays one liquid. |
| 1,2-Hexanediol | Diol. Dissolves the rest so the formula stays one liquid. |
| Hydroxyacetophenone | Ketone. Used to slow oxidation, in the formula and on skin; keeps microbes out of the jar. |
How the formula works together
Three groups of ingredients are doing the work here. Humectants — Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin and Propanediol among others — draw water into the surface. Panthenol works on the look of redness. Niacinamide works on the look of unevenness.
Humectants and calming ingredients cover each other. Skin that has lost water looks redder and more textured than it is, so putting water back is half of how a formula settles the look of a difficult day.
Who it is for
Worth checking before you buy: contains essential oils.
How to use it
- Apply the ampoule before using the modeling pack
- Add cold water (50ml) to the marked line in the bowl, mix in the powder using the spatula, and apply quickly as the modeling pack may set fast
- Rest for 15 minutes, then gently remove the modeling pack when it hardens and finish by smoothing out the skin texture
- TIP After using the modeling pack, apply the ampoule once again to make skin even more moisturized and smooth
