MEDIHEAL
MEDIHEAL Madecassoside Blemish Repair Serum 40ml
Madecassoside, declared at 540 ppm.
A number on the label is rarer than it should be.
Light serum, no sting on broken-out skin.
What this serum does
A 40 ml serum carrying Madecassoside with Niacinamide, three further centella actives and Ceramide NP, formulated for skin working on the look of post-blemish marks and the redness around them.
Centella, taken apart
Most lists say Centella Asiatica Extract and stop. This one names the isolated actives as well: Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid and Asiatic Acid — the four compounds the extract is valued for — alongside both whole-plant and leaf extracts. Naming the fractions separately is a formulation choice you can verify on the label.
Key ingredients
Ingredient · What it is, and what it is used for
- Madecassoside
- Triterpene glycoside from Centella asiatica. Used to calm irritation.
- Asiaticoside
- The best studied of the centella triterpenes. Used to calm the look of redness.
- Madecassic Acid
- One of the isolated triterpenes from centella. Naming it means the active is measured in, not just carried along in a whole-plant extract.
- Asiatic Acid
- Another isolated centella triterpene. Used to calm the look of redness.
- Niacinamide
- Vitamin B3. Studied for evening out the look of tone, for the look of pores, and for breakout-prone skin — which is why it turns up in so much of this catalogue.
- Ceramide NP
- Ceramide 3. A material skin already contains, so it reads as its own.
- Panthenol
- Provitamin B5. Used to calm irritation, and pulls water into the surface and holds it there.
- Beta-Glucan
- Polysaccharide from yeast or oat. Used to calm irritation, and pulls water into the surface and holds it there.
- Sodium Hyaluronate
- Sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. A material skin already contains, so it reads as its own; used to pull in water and hold it.
- Rosa Damascena Flower Water
- Distillate of Damask rose flower.
- Hedera Helix (Ivy) Leaf/Stem Extract
- Extract of ivy leaf and stem.
- Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
- Jojoba — a liquid wax rather than an oil, which is why it sits light. Softens the surface.
How the formula works together
Two jobs run side by side. Niacinamide, high on the list, is the material with a functional-cosmetic history for the look of uneven tone. The centella set below it works on the look of irritation — which is what usually leaves the mark in the first place.
The texture is deliberately thin: Glyceryl Polymethacrylate and an acrylate crosspolymer give body without oil, and there is only a trace of jojoba and Triethylhexanoin. Ceramide NP at the very end is the material given back to the surface.
Four essential oils are on the list — cedarwood, patchouli, mugwort and rosemary. For a serum aimed at reactive skin, that is the one thing to weigh.
Who it is for
Labelled for blemish-prone skin and post-blemish marks. Contains essential oils.
How to use it
- After toner, take two or three drops and spread over the face.
- Press a little more onto marks that are still darkening.
- Use morning and night; wear sunscreen during the day, since marks darken with sun.
