Description

The last five minutes of the evening, made easy.

Lather you can feel the weight of.

What this cleanser does

A 120 ml cleanser, formulated to hold water in the surface and soften the surface.

A soap-based foam, by formulation

The cleansing system here is saponified: Myristic Acid, Stearic Acid, Lauric Acid, neutralised with an alkali. That is what produces dense, cushioned lather rather than the thin foam a detergent system gives.

Worth knowing if you deliberately avoid soap-based cleansers.

Key ingredients

Ingredient What it is, and what it is used for
Sodium Hyaluronate Sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. A material skin already contains, so it reads as its own; used to pull in water and hold it.
Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid Hyaluronic acid of reduced molecular weight. Used to pull in water and hold it.
Glycerin Polyol. A material skin already contains, so it reads as its own; used to pull in water and hold it.
Butylene Glycol Diol. Used to pull in water and hold it; dissolves the rest so the formula stays one liquid.
Myristic Acid C14 saturated fatty acid. Listed as fragrance, opacifying agent, surfactant (cleansing).
Stearic Acid C18 saturated fatty acid. Used to soften by filling the gaps between surface cells; sets how thick it is.
Lauric Acid C12 saturated fatty acid. Listed as fragrance, surfactant (cleansing).
Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate Amino acid surfactant. Listed as hair-conditioning agent, surfactant (cleansing).
Coco-Betaine Betaine surfactant of coconut origin. Listed as antistatic agent, hair-conditioning agent, skin-conditioning agent, surfactant (cleansing).
Glycol Distearate Glycol diester. Listed as skin-conditioning agent (occlusive), viscosity increasing agent (non-aqueous).
Glyceryl Stearate SE Self-emulsifying grade of glyceryl stearate. Listed as surfactant (emulsifying).
Sorbitan Olivate Olive-derived sorbitan ester. Keeps oil and water from separating.

How the formula works together

Two groups of ingredients are doing the work here. Humectants — Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin among others — draw water into the surface. Stearic Acid sits on top and slow how fast that water leaves.

Humectants and emollients and lipids are the pairing that matters here: water pulled in by one, held there by the other. That is the difference between skin that feels comfortable an hour after application and skin that feels comfortable at bedtime.

Who it is for

Worth checking before you buy: soap-based (saponified) cleansing system; contains essential oils.

How to use it

  1. Take an adequate amount on palms and work into lather.
  2. Gently massage over wet face.
  3. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
