Key ingredients
| Ingredient | What it is, and what it is used for |
|---|---|
| Niacinamide | Nicotinamide (vitamin B3). Studied for signalling to skin cells rather than sitting on top; studied for evening out tone; studied for breakout-prone skin. |
| Tranexamic Acid | Synthetic lysine derivative. Listed as astringent, skin-conditioning agent. |
| Centella Asiatica Extract | Extract of Centella asiatica, whole plant. Used to calm irritation; used to slow oxidation, in the formula and on skin; used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Panthenol | Provitamin B5. Used to calm irritation; used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Madecassoside | Triterpene glycoside from Centella asiatica. Used to slow oxidation, in the formula and on skin; used to calm irritation. |
| Butylene Glycol | Diol. Used to pull in water and hold it; dissolves the rest so the formula stays one liquid. |
| Glycerin | Polyol. A material skin already contains, so it reads as its own; used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Betaine | Amino acid derivative from sugar beet. Used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Pentylene Glycol | Diol. Dissolves the rest so the formula stays one liquid; used to pull in water and hold it. |
| Xylitylglucoside | Sugar derivative. Listed as skin-conditioning agent (humectant). |
| Anhydroxylitol | Xylitol derivative. Listed as skin-conditioning agent (humectant). |
| Xylitol | Sugar alcohol. Listed as sweetener, humectant, skin humectant. |
How the formula works together
Three groups of ingredients are doing the work here. Humectants — Butylene Glycol, Glycerin and Betaine among others — draw water into the surface. Calming ingredients — Centella Asiatica Extract, Panthenol and Madecassoside — work on the look of redness. Niacinamide works on the look of unevenness.
Humectants and calming ingredients cover each other. Skin that has lost water looks redder and more textured than it is, so putting water back is half of how a formula settles the look of a difficult day.
How to use it
- Drop an appropriate amount and evenly apply to the skin.
- Pat to promote absorption.
